Dr Tony Noun (Founder,

Transforming Lives Through
Cancer Care – Dr Tony Noun has devoted over three decades to establishing
world-leading cancer treatment centres in Australia. His unwavering vision,
commitment, and work ethic, have had a profound impact, positively transforming
the lives of countless cancer patients.  Thanks
to Dr Noun’s pioneering efforts, many communities in Sydney, its suburbs, and numerous
regional areas now have convenient access to comprehensive cancer care services
and clinical trials.

As the founder and Chair of
Cancer Care Associates, Dr Noun leads a dedicated team of highly skilled
healthcare professionals that deliver more than 50,000 treatments annually,
whilst ensuring the same high level of care for every patient, regardless of
their gender, economic status, ethnicity, creed, or religious belief.  Driven by a commitment to cancer research, a constant
improvement in service delivery and a desire to enhance accessibility to free
cancer treatment, Dr Noun established the Cancer Care Foundation.

Dr Noun’s acts of philanthropy and contribution to cancer treatment embodies the sentiments and
mission of the Cancer Care Foundation. This deep compassion and dedication to
improving the lives of cancer patients and their carers were also recognised by
the NSW Government with a Community Service Award, acknowledging his
extraordinary contributions that far surpass the expectations of his occupation.

Dr Tony Noun’s remarkable
achievements and relentless pursuit of excellence continue to inspire and
empower those affected by cancer. His leadership and unwavering commitment to
providing world-class care have made a significant and lasting impact in the
field of cancer treatment. The Cancer Care Foundation stands as a testament to
Dr Noun’s enduring legacy, ensuring that hope and support reach those in need,
regardless of their circumstances.

Peter Baker (Secretary) FAICD, MBA, MSc, BSc

Peter
has over 30 years’ experience as a senior executive in a broad range of
challenging situations including Director and Chairman experience. His
background includes consulting and formulating and implementing strategy as
well as hands-on M&A experience with both private and public acquisitions.

His
track record includes roles with James Hardie Industries, as Executive Vice
President of the Asia Pacific operations and chairman of the asbestos
compensation arrangements. In these roles Peter was actively involved in
government negotiations, media relations and investor relations.  Peter
also led strategy and M&A activity at Medical Imaging Australia (MIA) completing
several acquisitions before leading the sale of MIA to the DCA Group by means
of a scheme of arrangement. Peter’s varied commercial experience enables him to
bring extensive financial, strategic and corporate expertise to the Foundation.

Michael Izard MBBS (Lon), FRANZCR, MMedHum

Michael
is a Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director at the Northern Beaches Cancer
Care Centre. Michael holds a Clinical Associate Professor role at Sydney University.
He is also the recipient of an Australian Defence Medal for his service within
the Medical Corps of the Army Reserve.

He is a leader in high dose, focalised radiation therapy, including SRS and SBRT,
with a focus on brain, lung and spinal cancers. Michael’s specialities include
prostate cancer and breast cancer. Whilst at Macquarie University Hospital he
started the first Australian Gamma Knife program as the lead Radiation
Oncologist.

Michael consults at different Sydney hospitals, attending their multidisciplinary
teams, and is actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate
levels. He was recognised as a founding member of the Prostate Cancer
Foundation of Australia, is an invited member of the Specialist Medical Review
Council of the Department of Veterans Affairs and has been invited to
contribute with the NSW Government Cancer Institute EviQ practice guidelines.
He previously sat with the Executive Committee of the Australasian Society of
Breast Diseases.

David Palmieri MBBS, FRACP

A/Prof David Palmieri is a
Consultant Medical Oncologist and Physician. He trained at St Vincent’s and
Westmead Hospitals in Sydney and moved to Wagga Wagga with his young family in
early 2019. He is the Medical Director at Riverina Cancer Care Centre (RCCC).

David treats patients with
all solid organ malignancies and has a sub-specialty interest in the
management of melanoma, thoracic malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies
and palliative care.

David consults at RCCC and
admits patients requiring inpatient care to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and
Calvary Riverina Private Hospital. He is an investigator on multiple clinical
trials at RCCC, a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South
Wales Rural Clinical School and an examiner for the Royal Australasian College
of Physicians.

When not working David
enjoys travel, the great outdoors and spending time his wife and three young
children.

Patrick Woods BSc (Guelph), MBA (McM), ACPA, FAICD

Patrick is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Resources) at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), where he is responsible for the business of the university. This includes the financial strategy and long-term finance plans, the creation and delivery of the $1.5 billion Campus Master Plan, as well as the optimal financial and commercial performance of UTS in support of the university’s strategic objectives. Patrick also has the responsibility for improving strategic and operational resilience against all forms of risk and for activating particular partnerships with the community, industry, government and other enterprises for the derivation and diversification of UTS income.

Prior to joining UTS Patrick spent 28 years in the private sector across many different industry types. He has held numerous chief executive officer, managing director, director and non-executive director positions in various local and international companies across North America, Asia and the Middle East. Patrick has a BSc from the University of Guelph and an MBA from McMaster University in Canada; and he is a former naval officer.

Paul de Souza (Director of Research) BSc Med, MB BS, MPH Syd, PhD UNSW,
FRACP

Paul
is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Southside Cancer Care Centre and Head of
Medical Research for the CCA Group. He is also Professor of Medicine (Oncology)
at the University of Sydney, based at Nepean Cancer Centre, and University of
Western Sydney’s (UWS) Foundation Professor in Medical Oncology. He, together
with senior scientists, run a research laboratory at the Ingham Institute in
Sydney, and is dedicated to improving patient access to clinical trials, the
development of new drugs for cancer patients, and innovative methodologies for
the monitoring of cancers.

After
graduating from Sydney University in 1986 and completing his Medical Oncology
training in Sydney, Paul was appointed as a Research Associate and later an
Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia where he
developed his clinical and research interests in cancer drug development and
urological cancers.

Upon
his return to Sydney in 1997, Paul founded the Clinical Trials Unit at St
George Hospital while working as a staff specialist, prior to moving to
Liverpool Hospital as a Professor of Medical Oncology and setting up a research
laboratory at the Ingham Institute as well as a Phase I clinical trials unit dedicated
to developing new drugs and approaches for the treatment of various cancers.

Mr Damien Williams, CEO, Cancer Care Associates, MBA, DAppSc

Cancer Care Associates is a trusted name in oncology, that works alongside the Cancer Care Foundation.

With over 30 years of experience in various roles, including Radiation Therapist, Centre Manager, and Chief Operating Officer, Damien has dedicated his career to the provision of efficacious comprehensive care to cancer patients. 

Damien’s in-depth understanding of cancer care, led to his appointment as CEO of the Cancer Care Associates’ group, for he possesses a unique blend of clinical expertise and healthcare management acumen that enable him to lead a caring and compassionate team of highly skilled healthcare professionals.

Passionate about ensuring equitable access to affordable and high-quality healthcare, in 2002 Damien was part of the team that established the ground-breaking Riverina Cancer Care Centre, the first comprehensive cancer care service in regional NSW, upon which numerous other services are modelled.

Driven by his vision of accessible cancer care, Damien is spearheading Cancer Care Associates’ expansion efforts to bring comprehensive high-quality cancer care to more Australians, which also facilitates the Cancer Care Foundation’s quest to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients nationwide.
